Resources

Asheville Area Arts Council

Founded more than forty years ago, the AAAC is dedicated to developing cultural resources, city and audience development, fund raising and grant allocations, and administrative service assistance. Their website contains an events calendar, cultural information for the general public, and resources for artists in the Asheville and Buncombe County area.

Blackpearl Soapstone

Blackpearl soapstone is remarkable for its dense, close grain that is exceptionally strong and resistant to chipping, flaking, splitting or staining. These properties make this natural soapstone ideal for both indoor and outdoor sculptural installations. Although strong, blackpearl is soft enough to be easily shaped, which is why it has been prized by native artisans for centuries. When polished, blackpearl takes on a deep black hue that interacts with light beautifully to produce a wide range of light and shade. More information is available at www.blackpearlsoapstone.com.

Colorado Alabaster

This somewhat translucent stone is often gray, white or pink and can have beautiful bands of color resulting from iron, copper and other minerals native to this region.
